Local Monitoring Committee Member

Would you like the opportunity to make a difference to the life of our school here in Scilly and our pupils? We are inviting parents and carers to join our governing body as a Local Monitoring Committee member.

The school’s governing board (called a Local Monitoring Committee or LMC) provides strategic leadership, ensuring the school continues to thrive. Governors play an important role in supporting the headteacher and staff while holding the school to account for its performance.

As a Parent Committee Member, you will bring your unique perspective as a parent to help shape the future of the school. You don’t need any special qualifications – just enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to work as part of a team. In return, you’ll gain valuable experience, develop new skills and know that you are helping every child in the school to flourish.

What does the role involve?

Parent Committee Members are not there to speak ‘on behalf of’ the parent body, but to contribute to the governing board’s discussions and decisions with a parental viewpoint in mind. The role is voluntary and the appointment is for a four-year term of office.

Each LMC has responsibility for day-to-day governance within the school. Core functions include:

The LMC is accountable to the Truro and Penwith Academy Trust Board of Trustees.

Our LMC meets four to six times a year, usually on a Wednesday. Papers are sent out in advance, and we are mindful that the commitment is manageable for those with busy lives.
